Website maintenance of rbravo.net
I’m currently in the middle of carrying out maintenance of my website at rbravo.net The site is currently missing past content. I hope to migrate it all across by tomorrow. It got me wondering though. If I can reupload the old posts to a subdomain on my site, I can still start a new path while keeping an archive of past content. I hope to be done with it soon. In the meantime I can...

Apple is like the scientology of consumer products
If you talk to any educated adult who owns more than 5 Apple products and speaks of all other brands as inferior; or defends iphone, ipod, imac to the death, then I am sorry but you are dealing with a cult member. Do you know of anyone close to you who fits the description above? If so then suggest they get help before they hand all their money over to the cult.

Long live open source software
Unlike a corporation, the movement will not go bankrupt. It does not rely on slave labour and contributors of open source will less likely commit suicide. Open source software does not declare war or seek to destroy private companies. Android is opensource and could one day lose marketshare. It could even go bust. However, there will always be another open source alternative to follow up. You can...

What I know about Valparaiso, and Santiago...
Santiago Wanderers is Chile’s oldest soccer team. It was founded in Valparaiso in 1892 and has called the port its home since then. Despite only having won 3 premierships it has strong support from the local residents. When visiting Valparaiso you realise that Santiago Wanderers is more than just a soccer team that plays every Sunday – it’s an extension of the port itself. As you...

Oh Chile: Some things never change
So, some 21 years have passed since Chile was once again a country that practised democracy. Pinochet’s last days as Dictator were in 1990. One thing, two things actually haven’t changed. They are the uniforms used by the carabineros (policemen) and army; and the arrogance with which all armed forces perform their job. Below is a link that details the story of a woman who was...

Tire me
We live in an unbalanced world. As soon as we accept that, we will make the most of our time. When things are good, it only takes one incident to dampen your morale. When things are bad, eventually (and sometimes suddenly) something great happens and makes you smile again. It’s been this way for years. I guess life is a collection of reminders that we don’t have a lot of time left....

google+ and new tumblr theme
I have a new tumblr theme. I don’t know what it’s called but I like it. The previous theme I used had lasted 2 years and served me well. This new theme has my twitter feed, RSS, it shows what tumblrs I’m following and even has a mobile view of the site. Oh and disqus comments work by just adding your username. No need to insert code into the theme editor. I expect this theme to...

It’s hard to believe that something so wrong can occur in today’s age. Have we not learned from all the suffering that humanity has has witnessed in the past? A life is priceless, it’s immeasurable. What’s left are the impressions and lessons these innocent souls have left us. Many people join with other like minded people to live out and enjoy their political principles...

The difference between Disqus and Gravatar
I couldn’t find a website with this title so I thought I’d create one myself. This evening while thinking about my Gravatar and Disqus profiles and the fact that many professional wordpress bloggers use Disqus, - rather than the software’s comment system - I became confused. I know that Gravatar is a service that adds your photo to comments you write online and that Disqus...

Is it good to be stubborn
Double edge swords. Sometimes virtues can also be flaws. I’ve got two examples that I can give.  One is that I’m stubborn. Of course this is seen as a flaw. However, there have been times where being stubborn and being right have joined forces and given me great credit. (Did I mention I’m majorly modest?). Really though, sometimes being wrong but sticking to your guns is a good...

Regrets
… I think that all the silence is worse than all the violence Fear is such a weak emotion that’s why I despise it We scared of almost everything, afraid to even tell the truth So scared of what you think of me, I’m scared of even telling you Sometimes I’m like the only person I feel safe to tell it to I’m locked inside a cell in me, I know that there’s a jail in you Consider...

Trying to get into Single Lens Reflex (SLR)...
So, I have an interest in photography. Until now I’ve owned one compact digital camera and my parents own a film SLR. I’m quite fond of using the film SLR because it gives me a sense of craftsmanship, vintage and expertise. Of course none of this amounts to much because I’m not a trained photographer. I’d like to learn, I’d like to be able to use the camera to...

Getting robbed
I got robbed once. It was overseas. We came home one night to find out someone had been inside our home and taken off with some of our possessions. The consolation was that no one was home when it happened and therefore, no one’s safety was put at risk. I remember my first feelings of frustrations. I felt angry and sorry for myself. “Why did something like this have to happen to...

Unintended reactions
I don’t think I ever set out to be misunderstood but I find that I sometimes am. As hard as you try, people sometimes perceive you as doing wrong when you only ever intended to do good. Things you say get twisted or repeated outside of context and sometimes used against you. Many factors come into play when people react differently to how you intended. There’s sense of humour,...

There goes another weekend
It’s Sunday, 3:30pm in Canberra. In half an hour all the stores in town close and the only sources of entertainment left are the movies and restaurants. I need to find a way to avoid falling into the category of “oh my God it’s Monday! Thank God it’s Friday!” people. Part of the problem is that Canberra is a city that allows for its residents to fall into an...

Waste money, not time
I’m stubborn in my ways, I’m also thrifty. I’m the type who will eat everything on the plate if I’m paying for it. I watch movies at the cinema until the credits roll because no matter how bad the movie is, I’m paying and should at least wait until the end. Well, not anymore. I’m going through a phase where I’m placing more value on time than money. So...

Procrastination
Probably been stated elsewhere but my theory on procrastination is that things only get done when and while more important things should be getting done at that same moment.

Why I have never been to i-world
Now that we are deeply immersed in a globalised, international technology market, a few monopolies have successfully emerged. Microsoft’s stranglehold over computer Operating Systems is an example. Another is Apple’s conquer of the portable music industry and it’s strong influence in the smart phone business. There are three things that keep me from buying into an i-world...

Felíz año nuevo
Ya se cerró un año mas. Creo que este ha sido el mas generosos en últimos años.  Quiero que el 2011 sea igual de bueno pues deseo aspirar a mas cosas.
